Successful Schools in Action. Schools and community united - forging the future for strong public education, pre-K to college.

Who We Are

Community members
Formed in 2002 as a grassroots response to help support and strengthen neighborhood schools, Successful Schools in Action is comprised of the six public schools in the Queen Anne and Magnolia neighborhoods of Seattle. With over 3,000 students, we serve a broad spectrum of ethnically, racially, and economically diverse students and families from every neighborhood in Seattle.

SSIA has a very active 19-member Board of Directors, a dedicated group of community and school volunteers, and four staff members:

Lisa Moore, PhD, Executive Director
Lisa combines a background of high tech management and teaching experience with her passion for public education in her role as the Executive Director. A Seattle Public School parent, she has been with SSIA since it first formed in 2002.
Flo Minehan, Tutor Program Manager
Flo is responsible for developing and administering our Tutor program. Flo is a 20-year member of the community with one daughter attending Seattle Public Schools, and one daughter at the University of Washington. She has been an active participant in neighborhood and District-wide education programs.
Ann Espo, Development Manager
Ann is a long-time Queen Anne resident, and the proud parent of a John Hay student. She holds degrees from Smith College and the University of Washington. Ann has an extensive background in community service and was Executive Director of the Wallingford branch of the Boys and Girls Clubs of King County for seven years.
Sandy Nielsen, Debate Program Manager
Sandy has resided in Magnolia for 15 years. She is the mother of three sons and has been extensively involved in school and community volunteer activities. Sandy has a BA and previously worked in the human resources field.
